千年古寺伴资江，红墙黄瓦富丽皇。
依山而建四进殿，廊亭楼阁画雕梁。
佛教故事栩如生，修行之路拾阶上。
一路艰难上峰顶，清风徐来豁开朗。
裴休夜读引白鹿，寺院从此盛名扬。
千斤铜钟定时响，声彻古城音悠扬。
清飒邈然如纱舞，禅意幽幽至庭湘。
注：1. 白鹿寺，在湖南益阳。 2. 裴休，官至宰相。据传曾夜读白鹿寺，引来白鹿，寺故得名。3. 庭湘， 指洞庭湖一带。
【诗人、诗译者简介】于岚，网名方壶斋，出生于50年代中期，曾在解放军外国语学院和北京第二外国语学院担任英语教师。他目前在加州中部担任对外汉语教学工作。除了出版一些学术论文和教科书外，他还在网上撰写了大量文章和诗歌，并积极参与cnd.org，yidian.org，mycoffeebean.org，mayacafe.com，smallstation.net，wenxuecity.com,等中文网站的投稿。他也热衷于唱歌唱戏并在youtube.com和yourlisten.com上发布。
The White Deer Temple

By the Zi River stands a temple thousands of years old,
Its red walls and yellow tiles a show of magnificence.
Four quadrangles and halls this hilly temple does hold,
Its pavilions, towers, and corridors a colorful presence.
Buddhist legends come to life in many a painting,
The stairs uphill lead to the cultivation of the mind.
Despite hardships of climbing pilgrims come ascending
To the hilltop to enjoy a view of the breezy kind.
Once when Pei Xiu burned the midnight oil in his study,
A white deer came to listen; thus the temple got its name.
The heavy bronze bell announces the hours regularly,
Everywhere in the old town lingers the sound of fame.
Like graceful gauze the melodious sound flies high
Spreading the spirit of Zen to Dongting nearby.
Notes:
White Deer Temple, or Bailu Temple, is located in Yiyang, Hunan Province.
Pei Xiu, a high ranking government official of Tang Dynasty. It was said that once he read at midnight in the Bailu Temple and attracted a white deer to come to listen to him. Hence the name of the temple.
Dongting, a big lake in northern Hunan Province.
