鸿蒙辟而玄元绽，混沌破而真如显。

万劫沉霾凝浊世，一泓觉水濯尘寰。

时维丙午，序属孟夏，四月初八，浴佛良辰。

蓝毗尼树承祥露，无忧枝下诞圣颜。

九龙吐水开梵宇，七步生莲耀尘烟。

天上天下尊无二，古往今来觉独先。

溯夫天地肇始，阴阳斡旋，元气氤氲，万类滋繁。

浊浪翻滚于三界，无明笼罩于九渊。

众生沉沦于业海，六趣辗转于尘樊。

贪嗔痴慢缠心腑，爱恨情仇锁尘缘。

生老病死循环转，悲欢离合往复连。

长夜漫漫无明灯，苦海茫茫少渡船。

于是玄元降迹，觉者临凡，应劫而生，乘愿而来。

迦毗罗卫，王室诞麟子；雪山之麓，圣脉孕真诠。

摩耶夫人，梦吞六牙白象；净饭王宫，瑞霭千重祥烟。

四月初八，良辰吉时，无忧树下，诞此金仙。

身具三十二相，相好庄严；足踏七宝金莲，瑞气盘旋。

一手指天，宣“天上天下，唯我独尊”之宏誓；

一手指地，明“三界皆苦，吾当安之”之悲愿。

周行七步，步步生莲，莲开九品，香彻九天。

天地震动，诸天共贺；神龙吐水，梵界同欢。

九龙蜿蜒，自九霄而降；香汤澄澈，沐圣体而安。

水泛琉璃之色，光凝琥珀之斑。

涤尽尘嚣俗垢，显发清净真颜。

此乃浴佛之源，圣典所载；千秋之俗，万代相传。

尔后，太子舍王宫之富贵，弃家国之权柄。

逾城出走，披缁衣而辞紫殿；入山苦修，绝尘念而觅真诠。

六年苦行，日食一麻一麦；万念澄心，遍历千难万艰。

于菩提树下，结跏趺坐；观星河万象，冥思玄渊。

夜睹明星，豁然顿悟；无明尽灭，自性圆满。

证得无上正等正觉，成就释迦牟尼佛尊。

三转法轮，宣四谛之妙理；广开觉路，度万类之愚顽。

说因缘之往复，明因果之循环。

讲无常之真谛，示涅槃之安闲。

四十九年，说法不倦；百亿世界，度众无边。

慈悲为怀，悯众生之疾苦；智慧为炬，破长夜之幽暗。

其法如甘霖，润枯槁之心田；其智如朗月，照迷津之尘寰。

浴佛之仪，非沐佛身，乃净自心；非求外福，乃明自性。

佛本清净，无垢无染；心原澄澈，无妄无贪。

众生迷妄，尘垢覆心；如镜蒙尘，光明难显。

借香汤之净，涤心垢之繁；仰圣觉之智，破无明之缠。

手持净水，灌浴金像；心契真如，远离尘烦。

愿消三障诸烦恼，愿得智慧真明了。

五浊众生令离垢，同证如来净法身。

观夫今日，丙午之年，浴佛之辰，四海同虔。

古刹香烟缭绕，梵音回荡云天；信众虔诚顶礼，心境澄澈如泉。

金盆盛香汤，映琉璃之光彩；莲台承圣像，显般若之庄严。

香花环绕，献十方之诸佛；梵呗悠扬，颂万古之慈缘。

浴佛者，非独沐佛，亦沐众生；非独净身，亦净尘间。

愿此香汤，涤尽世间贪嗔痴；愿此觉光，照破寰宇暗与偏。

令暴戾化为祥和，令纷争化为安闲。

令贫疾化为富足，令愚痴化为慧观。

转五浊恶世为净土，导邪曲人心为菩提 。

吾尝观天地之浩瀚，察古今之变迁。

叹众生之迷妄，感世事之纷繁。

名利枷锁，困多少豪杰；情欲樊笼，缚无数尘凡。

奔波劳碌，为衣食之谋；勾心斗角，为得失之患。

百岁光阴，如白驹过隙；一生荣辱，似过眼云烟。

何不抛却尘虑，澄心观玄；远离贪妄，归向觉园。

心似琉璃，内外澄澈；性如明月，上下清圆。

无挂无碍，自在安然；不生不灭，永恒绵延。

此乃浴佛之深意，亦是人生之真诠。

佛不在外，而在本心；觉不在远，而在当前。

一念清净，便是佛国；一念迷妄，即是尘寰。

心无染着，处处皆是净土；性无贪嗔，时时可结善缘。

值此浴佛良辰，谨以寸心，遥寄梵天。

愿众生皆离苦得乐，愿世间皆清净安澜。

愿智慧之光，普照三千大千世界；愿慈悲之雨，润泽六道万类尘凡。

愿人人自性圆明，个个心灯常燃。

共赴觉海，同证真如；永离尘劫，长乐无边。

Reflections on Buddha Bathing Festival

Tracing the profound origin of primal essence,

Immersing in the lucid waves of the sea of enlightenment.

Eighth day of the fourth lunar month, Bingwu Year

When primordial chaos split, the primal source unfolded;

When primeval haze dispersed, true nature manifested.

Eons of dense gloom shrouded the mortal tainted world,

A pool of enlightening water cleanses all earthly mortal bounds.

It falls in Bingwu year, early summer season.

On the eighth day of the fourth lunar month comes the sacred Buddha Bathing Day.

Sacred dew lingers over the Lumbini trees,

Beneath the Ashoka tree the sacred Buddha was born.

Nine dragons pour holy water to grace the Buddhist realm,

Golden lotus blooms beneath every step across mortal lands.

Supreme above heaven and earth, unmatched through all ages;

First to attain awakening across past and present eras.

From the genesis of heaven and earth, yin and yang circulate endlessly,

Vital essence permeates all space, nurturing myriad living beings.

Turbid waves surge across the three realms,

Ignorance veils the profound abyss of mortal delusion.

All beings sink into the ocean of karmic afflictions,

Transmigrating endlessly through six realms of mortal turmoil.

Greed, anger, ignorance and arrogance cling deep in hearts,

Love, hatred, joy and grief bind mortal worldly ties.

Birth, aging, sickness and death revolve in endless cycles,

Separation and reunion repeat time and again.

Endless dark nights lack guiding lantern light,

Boundless bitter seas have few ferries for salvation.

Thus the primal sacred essence descends to mortal world,

The Enlightened One incarnates amid mortal chaos,

Born to answer worldly tribulations, coming forth with compassionate vows.

In the kingdom of Kapilavastu, a noble sage is born to royal lineage;

At the foot of snow-capped mountains, sacred truth takes shape.

Queen Maya dreamed of swallowing a six-tusked white elephant,

Thousands of layers of auspicious mist enveloped the royal palace.

On this auspicious eighth day of the fourth lunar month,

Beneath the Ashoka tree, the supreme Buddha came into being.

Adorned with thirty-two noble perfect features, majestic and solemn;

Treading upon seven-treasure golden lotus, surrounded by holy aura.

One finger points upward to heaven, proclaiming the grand oath:

"None is more honorable than I beneath heaven and above earth."

One finger touches the ground, uttering merciful aspiration:

"All three realms are steeped in suffering; I shall bring peace to all."

Seven paces taken forward, lotus blossoms blooming each step,

Nine-grade lotus flowers permeate celestial bounds with pure fragrance.

Heaven and earth tremble, all celestial beings offer blessings;

Divine dragons pour holy water, the whole Buddhist realm celebrates.

Nine winding dragons descend from the highest firmament,

Clear fragrant holy water bathes the sacred Buddha’s body.

Water glows with glazed radiance, shimmering amber hues,

Washing away mortal dust and vulgar defilements, revealing pure inherent true appearance.

Such is the origin of Buddha Bathing, recorded in sacred scriptures,

A folk tradition passed down through thousands of years and generations.

Later the prince abandoned royal luxury and imperial power,

Leaving the palace behind, donning monk robes and forsaking regal halls.

Retreating into mountains for ascetic practice, casting aside mortal desires to seek ultimate truth.

Six years of austere cultivation, sustaining merely a grain of hemp and wheat daily,

Calming all distracting thoughts, enduring countless hardships and perils.

Seated cross-legged under the Bodhi tree,

Observing stars, rivers and all cosmic phenomena, contemplating profound mysteries.

Gazing upon the bright star at night, sudden full enlightenment dawned,

All ignorance vanished completely, inherent nature attained perfect wholeness.

He achieved supreme, perfect and universal enlightenment,

Known as the revered Shakyamuni Buddha.

Turning the Dharma wheel three times, expounding subtle truths of four noble truths,

Opening wide the path of awakening to redeem deluded mortal beings.

Elaborating the cycle of dependent origination and karmic retribution,

Revealing the impermanent essence of worldly existence and tranquil nirvana.

Preaching tirelessly for forty-nine years,

Saving countless living beings across billions of cosmic worlds.

Embracing boundless compassion for all mortal sufferings,

Holding profound wisdom as torchlight piercing eternal darkness.

His teachings are like sweet rain nourishing parched souls,

His wisdom shines like bright moon illuminating lost mortal paths.

The ritual of bathing Buddha is not to cleanse the Buddha’s physical form,

But to purify one’s own inner heart;

Not to seek external blessings, but to realize one’s inherent true nature.

The Buddha is eternally pure, free from dirt and contamination;

The original heart is naturally lucid, devoid of delusion and greed.

Living beings fall into delusion, their hearts covered with mortal filth,

Just like a mirror veiled with dust, losing its inherent brightness.

With pure holy water we wash away numerous inner defilements,

Drawing upon sacred enlightenment wisdom to break the fetters of ignorance.

Holding clear water to pour over the Buddha statue,

Uniting inner spirit with true nature, far from mortal vexation.

May all hindrances and afflictions be eliminated,

May genuine wisdom and clear insight be attained.

Deluded beings in the tainted world shall cast off impurities,

All attain the pure Dharma body of the Tathagata.

In this Bingwu year, on the sacred Buddha Bathing Festival,

Devout reverence prevails across all lands.

Incense curls upward in ancient temples, Buddhist chants echo through the sky,

Pious worshippers bow respectfully, their hearts pure as spring water.

Golden basins hold fragrant holy water reflecting glazed splendor,

Buddha statues rest on lotus pedestals embodying profound Prajna solemnity.

Fragrant flowers surround and pay homage to all Buddhas of ten directions,

Melodious Buddhist hymns praise eternal compassionate karmic bonds.

Bathing Buddha means purifying not only the sacred image but all living souls,

Cleansing not merely physical bodies but the entire mortal world.

May this holy water wash away greed, anger and ignorance of the mortal realm,

May this enlightening light dispel darkness and deviation throughout the universe.

Turn violence into harmony, conflicts into tranquil peace,

Poverty and illness into abundance, foolishness into wise discernment.

Transform the defiled mortal world into pure sacred land,

Guide distorted mortal minds toward Bodhi enlightenment.

I often behold the vastness of heaven and earth, witness vicissitudes of ages,

Sigh at mortal delusions and the complexity of worldly affairs.

Fame and fortune forge fetters binding countless heroic souls,

Desires and emotions form cages trapping numerous mortal mortals.

People toil endlessly merely to secure daily sustenance,

Struggle and intrigue driven by gains and losses in worldly pursuits.

A hundred years of life fleeting like a steed passing a crack,

Glory and disgrace vanishing like drifting mist before eyes.

Why not lay aside worldly worries, calm the heart to perceive cosmic truth,

Abandon greedy delusions and return to the realm of awakening.

Let the heart be as translucent as colored glaze, pure inside and out,

Let inherent nature shine like full bright moon, flawless and serene.

Free from all attachments and burdens, dwelling in ease and peace,

Beyond birth and extinction, lasting eternally without end.

This is the profound essence of Buddha Bathing,

Also the ultimate truth governing mortal life.

Buddha dwells not outside oneself, but deep within the original heart;

Awakening lies not far away, but in every present moment.

A single thought of purity creates a Buddha land within mind,

A single thought of delusion traps one in mortal mortal chaos.

A heart untouched by worldly attachments finds pure land everywhere,

A nature free from greed and anger nurtures virtuous karmic ties always.

On this sacred Buddha Bathing occasion, I offer sincere inner devotion to the Buddhist heaven.

May all beings cast off suffering and attain lasting joy,

May the whole world abide in purity and peaceful tranquility.

May the light of wisdom radiate over the boundless three-thousand great worlds,

May compassionate blessings moisten all creatures of six transmigration realms.

May every person realize perfect inherent nature,

May inner wisdom lamps burn steadily in every soul.

All sail together across the sea of enlightenment, attain true nature side by side,

Depart forever from mortal disasters, enjoying eternal boundless bliss.
