Love in the Persian Gulf – Selection of Works from the Fifth Silk Road International Poetry Festival in Dubai, UAE (Volume 1) [International Cultural Exchange]
Written by HanGeYou
Translated by Angel.XJ
As the essence of Chinese culture, almost every Chinese person can recite a few well-known masterpieces of Tang poetry and Song ci. However, the real start of modern Chinese poetry owes much to the introduction and exploration of Western literary concepts by scholars such as Hu Shi in the early 20th century, which opened the path of “new poetry”. At the same time, the beauty of the poetic styles of Tang poets represented by Wang Wei also spread to Europe and America, having a profound impact on the development of Western modern poetry.
As Poetry belongs to the world, and poets should also be of the world. Just like the Silk Road opened up in the Tang Dynasty, it not only transported precious Chinese commodities such as silk and porcelain to the Persian Gulf and Europe, but also spread Chinese culture to all parts of the world. At the same time, commodities and cultures from Central Asia and Europe quietly entered China, achieving the first in-depth integration of Eastern and Western civilizations. From that time or even earlier, China began to understand the world, and the world also started to enter China. The same is true of literature.
These platforms have built bridges for Chinese poetry to go global and for Eastern and Western poets to dialogue with each other, making indelible contributions to spreading excellent Chinese culture and promoting global poetic resonance. And today, the Chinese poetry circle has established and participated in many literary exchange platforms with international influence, such as the Boao International Poetry Forum, the World Poets Congress, the Silk Road International Poetry Festival, the Medellin Poetry Festival, etc. At the same time, there have emerged several international media and cultural institutions overseas that are committed to spreading Chinese culture, such as the “American Voice of Culture” International Media Network, “Global Poets and Artists Monthly”, “World Chinese Weekly”, “New York Poetry Journal” in the United States, etc.
As one of the emerging international literary festivals, since its establishment, the Silk Road International Poetry Festival, although only five years old, has been moving forward steadily and gaining increasing popularity under the joint efforts of Chairman Wang Fangwen and many literature lovers. Each event has caused a warm response in the international poetry circle. Especially the 5th Silk Road (Dubai) International Poetry and Art Festival held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East this time has reached an unprecedented height in terms of scale, influence, and the breadth of participating countries. a long time, and it is believed that the number will continue to increase in the future. Dozens of members of the Dubai royal family, representatives of the king, and many famous poets attended the event on site throughout the process and gladly accepted the congratulatory messages and honors issued by the organizing committee.
This was a grand event full of poetry and cultural richness. After the event, the participating poets, using their pens as a medium, created many poems full of inspiration. These works not only recorded the beautiful memories of this exchange but also demonstrated the thinking and imagination of the poets reignited by cultural collisions. They envisioned a more beautiful and harmonious world in their words and, inadvertently, became witnesses and disseminators of Eastern and Western cultural exchanges. Here, we have specifically selected the representative works of some poets and compiled them into a special issue to show our affirmation and support for this poetry festival. Through international platforms such as the “American Voice of Culture”, these works will cross mountains and seas and spread to all parts of the world, allowing more people to hear our voices, enabling Chinese poetry to truly go global, and making those poets born on the Silk Road become messengers and symbols of Chinese culture going global.

COLORS OF AUTUMN
Since the early days of the twenty-first century,
I’ll just start bending my fingers,
As in the future of human affairs
I can guess from the signs.
It is he who has the highest will and gift,
Krylyshko lightest letter,
Perched above the eternal conflagration,
He built his house out of straws.
And as the simplest thing in the world
From any human beginnings,
This house with the directness of dead wood
Above the raging abyss stood.
As time went on, destroying and sweeping away everything,
But nothing changed in the house.
And served as a golden pollen
The strongest cement to him.

The Distant Camel Bells
by Wang Fangwen
The camel’s hump cradles the blood-red sun
Drifting through dunes like waves undone
Bells jingle—soft as breath in sand–
Scattering notes across the land
Where rainbow coral reefs arise
From desert dreams beneath wide skies
A fishing village, lost in sleep
Stirs as melodies start to seep
The Burj Khalifa spears the blue
A mast of light the heavens knew
The Burj Al Arab’s silver sail
Unfurls to catch an endless gale
And seagulls, bearing Nabati song
Circle Palm Islands all day long–
Each graceful dive, a sacred quest
To find the bells their kin once blessed
Muhammad sings between the skies
Where cloud and sapphire harmonize
He stands atop the desert’s prow
Time’s steady helm within his brow
With threads of oil and strands of prayer
He weaves a dream suspended in air–
A gleaming island, serene and wide
Where faith and future gently glide
Hark—the camel bells still ring,
From Bedouin robes they rise and swing
They dance with waves, with salt and time
Composing songs of sand and rhyme
And moonlight, brewed from golden seas
Pours softly through the palm-fringed breeze

Star
Don’t let the spring moon cross over you without seeing it.
I saw you bow your head staring at your severed slippers
I saw your fingers tangle like two enemy armies
The river is turbid
You won’t see your picture in the water
The tree was never your mother, and there’s no way it could be
Monkeys are also not your brothers, not related to the lineage of your shadow
You’re the hidden place of truth that no one knows
You strip the material of its nature
Light separating gradually from darkness
Just lift your head
Let the fading star fall into your mouth
May your voice be born again.
Numbers
Three children are the sum of my fifty years of marriage
Not because I’m not a stallion
But in response to the free market
And the green economy
And sustainability in its imaginary sense and false form
That’s how sociologists tricked me
And that’s how, with plastic scissors,
I cut the tape of my lineage
So the earth doesn’t suffer my weight on it
So that the numbers do not overlap if time coughs.

THE DREAM OF JERUSALEM
By Cao Shui(China)
People came from all directions
like rivers flowing back to the Highland,
like souls ascending the stars.
From China, India, Persia,
Greece, Egypt, Canaan,
From Dunhuang to Babylon and Samarkand.
We arrived calmly too.
Jerusalem, the City of Peace
We arrived at the round top of the dome.
Tall stone pillars were erected up to the sky.
They entered through six doors,
we descended from the dome.
The Chinese spoke of the Yellow Emperor in Chinese;
the Greeks spoke of Zeus in Greek;
the Indians spoke of Indra in Hindi;
the Jews spoke of Jehovah in Jewish;
the Egyptians spoke of Ra, the God of Sun, in Egyptian;
the Persians spoke of Marduk in Persian.
They argued endlessly.
We couldn’t understand their language,
but we knew what they were talking about.
We read a lyric of the Tower of Babel:
words against people from all over the world.
They were all shocked
under the sun and the moon.
The Sumerians embraced the Akkadians;
Huangdi’s tribe danced with Yandi’s tribe;
the Cretans played with the Mycenaeans;
the Dravidians sang with the Aryans;
the Etruscans toasted to the Latins.
They came up and shook hands with us.
The Archangel Metatron came forward and sang the Song of Peace:
“Your words are better than 100,000 books;
one of your poems is better than 100,000 languages;
one of your dreams is better than 100,000 kinds of life.
I’m Mithras, I’m Maitreya,
I’m the Archangel Metatron.”
We saw it from the dome.
The pillars around had a phallic shape;
our soft dome was a vagina.
The Archangel painted the Metatron’s cube:
the secret of everything was in their midst.
People were running on horses with two heads
to tell each other about themselves.
From Jerusalem, the City of Peace,
from Chang’an to Luoyang,
Beijing, Nanjing, Kyoto,
Rome, Byzantium, Moscow, Vienna, Berlin,
New York, Los Angeles,
Machu Picchu and Tenochtitlan.
Our gathering was better than 100,000 meetings.
Everything started from here,
and everything will end here.
Eventually we will see our children and grandchildren
scattered all over the world.

Convergence
Lying like logs, our red bark wrinkled, we are as buffaloes who rotting melt on the green meadow.
But due to an inexplicable random act, lying like mushrooms on the grass, we explore all the millennia, flee from prehistoric beasts, fight all the wars, are millions of beings stretching under the arc of eternity, while dragon and yearning fight in the clouds.
The sun calls us and to hesitate is to die. Fly, fly, beauteous swan of desire, everything can be achieved.
Walking on the white dew, remove your shoes: the age of man is that of his gaze upon the legendary forest.

Wandering Moon
When I think of you,
I fold a poem into a boat
Set it adrift to distant lands
And then, quietly
I wait for the sunset
A boat filled with poetry
Wanders through time and space—
Europe
Africa
Oceania
And the faraway East that haunts my thoughts day and night
The distance is vast
I can only accompany you in spirit
Drifting
Wandering—
What are you searching for
On those distant and unfamiliar lands?
What have you cast aside?
Is it not the luggage filled with sorrow?
A wanderer l am
Lost between the sky and the sea
Rocks
Beaches—
My broken heart has been long buried
My yearning l long to fold into a boat
And send my body back home
By then
Wander with you by my soul

Liturgy of Broken Seeds
By Angel.XJ
In Kyiv’s subway shelter, a girl folds
bullet casings into cranes—wings etched
with Psalms hummed as shells tarnish sunsets to brass.
On Donetsk’s front, soldiers pluck petals
to pad boots where redemption sprouts
from blistered roots.
Beneath Gaza’s shattered solar grids,
ants weave fuse-wire nests between Quran
and rifle text—six-legged imams reconciling steel.
An Israeli sniper texts his Palestinian pen pal:
Your olive grove grew through my scope last night.
They meme Moses and Mohamed vaping
under the Red Sea’s algorithmic tide.
This is why laundry dances on Mariupol’s balconies—
why tank crews plant sunflowers in tread marks,
why Bedouin teens stream TikTok psalms
where Hagar’s tears salted dunes.
But lick Crimean wounds, let Gaza’s dust
baptize your lens, love the enemy’s laugh—
to hear sparrows in AK barrels chant Salaam
in C minor, eggs cracking into maps
where mines burst figs even Judas craves.

Time
The hawk eye of time
has seen through our soul
Everything we have experienced
will never be erased by time;
our track
will not be blown away by wind or rain;
our footprints
will not be covered up by dust or sand;
Rather, they will be forever engraved
on an age-old heart,
just like
the circles in a tree trunk.
In this life
some enlightening moments
are like the morning dews,
round as pearls and smooth as jade,
giving clear light to our eyes.
So illuminated we are
that a feeling of liveliness suddenly arise,
just like the rising sun at dawn,
bringing us a fresh new day.
Suddenly,
we seem to be lit up
by the vivid flash of truth about life.
We realize
The utmost perfection in life
is not attainable without effort.
It can be achieved only
through
patience, perseverance, and
appreciation.
