殊途同归的艺术与科学
——读柳城先生《电影三字经》

读者也许奇怪,为什么物理学家要来评论《电影三字经》?或许这位物理学家是一位电影爱好者?
说来话长,却也简单。《电影三字经》作者柳城先生早年读过我的《科学与艺术》一书,他说当时就受到感染。这或许就是人们常说的“缘起”吧。
我一直有一个信念,那就是科学与艺术是人类认识世界与表达世界的不同道路,这两条道路并不是楚河汉界,也不是泾渭分明,更不是永不相交的平行线。恰恰相反,这两条道路通向一个共同的高峰:真、善、美。作为个体的科学家和艺术家,他们在不同的领域向这共同的目标奋进。我熟悉的许多科学家具有浓厚的艺术兴趣,我认识的许多艺术家抱有对科学的真诚热爱。艺术兴趣使科学家感性灵动,热爱科学使艺术家深邃博大。
电影是一门建立在科学基础上的综合艺术,一百多年来,电影对于社会的影响极其巨大,这既是人类的艺术进步,也是人类的科学成果。
既然电影有如此重大的社会影响,如何创造电影必是一个各界务必高度重视的课题。柳城先生总结自己的实践,结合世界电影的经验,同时汲取传统文化的精华,写出这部《电影三字经》,是一件很值得祝贺的事情。在电影国际交流日益扩大的今天,对于世界电影是一个非常难得的贡献。
始于山脚的起步,兴于中途的采撷,终于有了我们今日顶峰的会和。
“人书俱老”。这个“老”,是老到,更是老成。能不欢呼,岂不乐哉!

Arts and Science Lead to the Same Destination
—A Read of Liu Cheng’s Three-Character Primer of Film

Readers may wonder why a physicist comments on this Three-Character Primer of Film. Is it because he is a film fan?
It’s a long but simple story. The author of Three-Character Primer of Film, Liu Cheng had read my book: Science and Art before and was influenced by it. Maybe this is what they call “predestiny”.
I had this belief that science and art are two different ways of learning and expressing the world, two ways not so different and much less two parallel lines that would never join. On the contrary, these two ways lead to the common peak: the true, the good and the beautiful. Scientists and artists, as individuals, are working their way toward this common target in their respective field. I’ve known scientists who have strong interest in art and artists who have sincere love for science. Interest in art makes a scientist sensitive and love for science makes an artist profound.
Film, as a comprehensive art based on science, has imposed tremendous influence on the society in more than a hundred years. It’s the progress of art as well as accomplishment of science for humanity.
Since film has such great social impact, it’s worthy of high attention from all circles on how to make films. Mr. Liu deserved congratulation for writing this Three-Character Primer of Film from his own practice, with reference to world’s film experience as well as merits of traditional culture. It’s an uncommon contribution to world’s film as international conmmunications on film are increasingly expanding.
As we set out from the foot of the mountain, and learned in the midway, we eventually meet at the peak today.
“Both the book and its author are old”. The “old” here indicates experience and reliability. Isn’t it something to cheer and enjoy?

中央电视台新闻直播间对柳城《电影三字经》入驻美影艺学院及其世界影响进行了即时采访及全方位的跟踪报道。



柳城执导的电影有《悲情布鲁克》《恋爱的旅程》《透过云层的霞光》《非法生命》等,在80年代曾产生巨大影响。曾创作出版长篇小说《爱情立交桥》,监制大型跨国专题片《世界历史》100部。1998年与电影频道主任阎晓明先生一起创立了中国的“电视电影”,如今已拍摄一千六百多部影片,其中多部影片在中国和国际电影节中获得大奖。他对“电视电影”的创立带动了中国数字电影和低成本电影的蓬勃发展。
