Bridge
By Ken Fan
Translated by Ken Fan
Before dawn,
Weeds and flowers remain indistinguishable.
The city is shrounded in haziness still.
Only that bridge hangs up there against sky,
Those crossing bars, simplistic yet powerful,
Are supporting lines of dashing car lights.
Once upon a time,
In those hearts,
There existed some invisible bridges.
They were love and solace.
They are understanding hands
tapping on your back,
And the firm shoulders to cry on quietly.
Since when,
They have been replaced with phone messages,
Plus a few silly emojis?
Until that freezing night,
A young shadowy figure
Lingering,
Hesitating,
Then, suddenly, jumped.
Note: Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco has one of the highest number of suicides in the world.
