Footprints of Life (group poems)
The Taste of the New Year
It is not the magnificent lanterns, nor the fireworks
Nor the square meals, fine suits or mellow wine
The taste of the New Year is in pulling yourself
Out of the colorful mire with all your might
It is tranquility, it is leisureliness
It is the reunion of a few old friends after long
separation
It is unfolding the bygones to find hidden spots of
light
Revisiting the days when we ran about in open-crotch
pants
It is building a snowman, tall and strong
With coal for his bright black eyes
And a red carrot for his nose
It is looking back at the stormy waves
The ups and downs of life, and the sorrow of parting
It is raising a bamboo raft alone
treacherous shoals
Zen Poetry
Zen poetry is gaining popularity
I want to learn it, but do not know how to approach it
My stomach is filled with daily needs and worries
Leaving no room for Zen
What should I do
Who cares? Being unable to write Zen poetry
Will not leave me hungry
Survival matters
At night, when going to bed, I think about Zen poetry
again
The more I think, the more I despise myself-
Having been well fed for over seventy years
I still cannot cover up a few ribs
I must be a hungry ghost reborn
My ribs have long entered the realm of Zen unawares
Reeds
Masters tend to live a lonely life
Being hermits in marshes or wild riverbanks
Their ethereal voices
Sent Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet, to the Miluo River
with sorrow
Accompanied herculean Xiang Yu to the Wu River
with heroism
The ups and downs of life, full of twists and turns
Five thousands years
Are all straightened
And absorbed
When the wild winds roar under the midnight waning
moon
They sing and dance
Releasing all the burdens of heaven and earth
Self-Worth
In the glorious moments
Wearing millions of golden arrows, you parade
through the city
In just one second
You are blinded by fortune and glory
No one will lower your dignity
Only you yourself
Can decide the curvature of your body
Sometimes, not for filling your belly
You risk breaking your neck or spine
When walking, keep your back straight and look
ahead
Beware of traps set by cunning merchants
If you encounter a weak person asking for help
Please slow down
And lower your gaze even further
