The Crane Darting to the Sky
On the Roll of Grand Test,
I’ve won no place, not so depressed.
E’en a good reign may lose the best.
What should I do next?
Since I can’t sail before the wind,
Why don’t I have fun, throwing a chest?
Why should I care loss or gain?
As a man of letters,
Compared with courtiers I am more blessed.
The misty rosy lanes
See rooms full of screens and scrolls well dressed.
Sure, I could find a pretty one,
I’ll go there to quest.
Clinging to the buds and roses there,
What bliss I enjoy,
Caressing and caressed!
How long can we stay on life’s crest?
Go away, you vain world,
Why not drink and sing, all to our zest?
