Cherish Your Nest
——Written on the Occasion of the 22nd Anniversary of the Return of Hong Kong
By Chen Feng (China)
Tr.Jinghao (UK)
Modifier: REN Chenggang (China)
Reciter: Zi yan in Chinese,Mary in English
If the bird has no nest
When the storm comes
It will get its feathers wet
If the tree has no roots
The tall tree will fall sooner or later
If you lose your home
A wandering heart has no support
Over the vast spaces of the motherland
No matter how glorious you are
As if you still can see the vicissitudes of the century
Wherever you go
In the body of the republic
Will still have your blood flowing.
As an ordinary Chinese
I was full of curiosity and longing for you
To taste your bitterness in the solemnity of return
Looking at your appearance in the joy of reunion
Actually, your nest is very small
Once your roots were wakened
You swayed in the wind and rain
The Red-blooded hearts of a Humen Fort
could not resist the strong ships and cannons of the great powers
In an unequal treaty
You gradually left your mother's arms
Since then
The motherland has missed a jewel
You become a wandering island
Looking helplessly across the water at your home
How helpless!
Family separation
Is such a torment
One and a half centuries
One hundred and fifty-five years
Fifty-six thousand five hundred and seventy-five days
The motherland has not forgotten you
The people have not forgotten you
History has not forgotten
Fifty-six nationalities look forward to
Surging with a common voice to greet you
Hello Hong Kong
Come home for a reunion
More than 700 days and nights of discussions; and
Countless tongue-in-cheek negotiations have
Demonstrated unity of determination and
Sovereign dignity is upheld
What is the effort behind this?
I don't know if you know or not
Compared with the many other ‘members’ in our family
Your nest is very ‘fashionable’
The Basic Law gives you the special status of
One country, two systems: Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong
To maintain long-term prosperity
A portrait of you near the water tower shows
How many inland areas admire
And how many coastal cities do sigh
What a good time to be born
But, even the lights are bright and it cannot cover
The impetuousness of some people
Going in the wrong direction
In the name of democracy
Bewitched by ideology they attempt to destabilize that
Hong Kong has become their only goal
Good homes are full of chaos
How many people are heartbroken?
How many people have given a righteous warning?
The logic of the robber is always profit first;
Western thinking is not a panacea!
Look at the Middle East today
The so-called human rights are still unfolding and
The haze of war is still looming
Advancing secretly by an unknown path.
Special chaos and big chaos are always the King's way of the invaders
Please cherish your nest
Deng Gong said: China is not the late Qing government
China's Hong Kong is not the Falkland Islands
Justice is never absent
Riots can only self-destruct the Great Wall
An appeal to rational response is the right way
If the Phoenix Nirvana
Really can be reborn
I would like to sacrifice my life with you
Growing old with you
If my pen stimulates your thoughts
I would like to be a hard shield
Guarding the streets on which you walk, day and night
If my poems
Can bring you a little greenery
I would like to be a little grass
Dance with you following with the wind
The motherland will always be your strong support
The people are always behind you
For the tragedy of history must not repeat itself
For a better tomorrow for Hong Kong
Cherish your nest...
