注：
1. 此首词1995年6月22日作于美国洛杉矶，最初发表在云南省楚雄彝族自治州地方志学会的刊物《楚州今古》1995年第3期上。并入选 1997年《中国当代诗词选》(第5集)。于2021年7月13日译成英语诗。
2. 南塔: 指楚雄城南，雁塔山之雁塔。
3. 北江: 北门大河，后治理成龙川江。
4. 紫溪山，楚雄西北数十里外。
5. 观音阁: 原楚雄旧城之中心。
6. 西岭: 城西，西山。
7. 龙甸乌鲸: 吾小时曾听传说，九龙甸水库有“席子鲸”，鲸成席子状，人挨之，席卷吞没。
8. 鹿走成城:相传早期建鹿城时，听由马鹿走绕，马鹿顺着楚雄的坝子走了一圈。后来人们就把城建在这个坝子里，称为鹿城。
9. 马樱花物: 传说很久以前，楚雄彝山有位姑娘名叫米依鲁。为反抗恶霸山寨王的逼婚，她在“新婚”之夜喝交杯酒时，酒中投毒。山寨王不知，一起饮之，他们同归于尽。米依鲁用自己的生命为民除害，感人肺腑，佳话传遍彝山。后来她的灵魂变成了马樱花，流世芳香。
10. 火炬熊光: 彝族人民一年一度庆祝“火把节”。火炬熊熊燃烧，人们载歌载舞。
11. 海椒串串: 海椒，指青红辣椒。记得郭沫若路经楚雄时，曾有诗云:“楚雄海椒一串串。”
12. 阜民: 阜民公社、阜民大队。在鹿城东南十余公里外。作者1976年当知青时，插队落户处。
13. 山茶: 指山茶花。春季，楚雄的山上，到处可见山茶花。

Chuxiong(1)

Morn mist hovers on the East Mountain,
South Wild-goose Pagoda reflects 2,
Northern River is flowing 3
On the Purple Brook Mount 4 we bath the rain,
Overlooking on the Guanyin Pavilion5,
Outside the San Jia Tang,
Dusk sun sets under the Western Mountain 6.
Black Wale7 plays with Nine-Dragon
Water of Yinjia Reservoir rolls down and on;
The deer walk around to encircle the city8.
The myth spreads and vividly sung,
Ode to the Silk Tree Blossoms9dear
Fragrance wafts everywhere.
Singing and dancing under the Torch bright light10,
Friendship reflects between Yi and Han people there
Memorize the Xueqiao Fair,
Strings of red and green peppers11hung place high and low
Many a young Swallow,
Soar over the Wild-goose Pagoda.
Flowers, fruits and silkworm field a few,
Fumin 12 paddies and
I light a cigarette of Yun Yan Brand.
Turning back my head to view,
The camellia flowers13 break into broad smiles,
Among in Yi counties and towns for miles and miles
Note:
1. This poem was written in Los Angeles US. on June 22nd, 1995. It was originally published in magazine of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province; selected in 1997 "Chinese Contemporary Poetry" (the fifth vol.) English Translation on the date of July 13th 2021.
2. South Pagoda: Yanta Pagoda of Yanta Hill, on south of Chuxiong City.
3. North River: North bound gate river;
4. refers to the Purple Brook Hill, dozens of miles northwest of Chuxiong.
5. Guanyin Pavilion: the former center of the old city of Chuxiong.
6. Xiling: Western Hill of Chuxiong.
7. Black Whale in Nine Dragon Reservoir: When I was a child, I have heard the legend of the Jiulong Dian Reservoir "a mat whale", the whale was in mat shape, people approach to it, got engulfed.
8. It is said that when the deer walked around Chuxiong dam area in the early days people built the city based on the deer’s trace called Lucheng (Deer Town).
9. It is said that a long time ago, there lived a girl named Miilu in the Yi mountains of Chuxiong. To fight against the bully's forced marriage, she drank the poisoned wedding wine on the "wedding night". Miilu sacrificed her life for the people, touching folks’ hearts, the story spread throughout the Yi Mountains. Later her soul turned into a Silk Tree Blossom, flower’s fragrance wafted everywhere.
10. Torch light: Yi people celebrate the "torch festival" bearing the torch, singing and dancing.
11. Pepper string: It refers to green and red pepper. Poet Guo Moruo, when he once passed through Chuxiong, he wrote a poem saying: "string by string peppers of Chuxiong.
12. Fumin: It is more than ten kilometers southeast of Chuxiong. When the author was an educated youth (1976), he worked there.
13. Camellia flowers: In spring, camellias can be seen everywhere on the mountains of Chuxiong.

任诚刚，英语教授。1989年毕业于美国康科迪亚大学。系威斯康星大学研究生、旅居美国十四年。1998年回国在云南农业大学外语学院担任教学与测试室主任、云南省翻译工作者协会理事、研究生高级文学翻译等课程教学。发表论文50余篇。出版《韵译天安门诗抄100首》《英韵周恩来朱德及陈毅诗选五十首》等译著。
Ren Chenggang，professor of English, graduated from Concordia University US in 1989. He was a graduate student in University of Wisconsin and lived in the United States for 14 years. In 1998, he returned to China and worked at the College of Foreign Languages, Yunnan Agricultural University, serving as the director of the Teaching and Testing Office and is a council member of the Yunnan Translators Association. Teaching Advanced Lilterary Translation and other courses. He has published more than 50 papers. Translation books as rhymed versions of 100 Poems of Tiananmen and 50 selected poems by Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and Chen Yi etc.
